AVON, OH β€” Students in Todd Kacher's business class at Avon High are selling mugs to benefit the Cleveland Clinic's hematology and medical oncology department, boosting the hospital system's cancer research. The mugs honor of Kacher's late wife, and the school's former Spanish teacher, who died after battling cancer.

The mugs display municipal pride, with an Eagle silhouette holding the word "Avon" inside. There's also an homage to Caitlin Kacher on the back.

The mugs can be purchased for $12, or in a package for $17. The package includes two Malley's chocolate bars, a cocoa packet and is wrapped for easy gifting.

Four years ago, Todd Kacher's business class at Avon High got a surprise visit. Kacher's wife, Caitlin, came in and convinced the students to create mugs and sell them. The mugs had fun phrases, like "Thanks a latte!" painted on, a touch recreated on this year's mugs.

Kacher told Patch the decision to bring the mugs back was made after the younger brother of one of his former students mentioned the mugs, and talked about how beloved they were in his house.

"So then, someone else in the class said, "Hey, why don't we do mugs the same way, just like Mrs. Kacher did them, and we will add a tribute to her on the back and give all the money to charity (Cleveland Clinic Hematology and Medical Oncology Dept.) for her," Kacher said.
