Coronavirus Update: How Avon, Avon Lake Are Responding
Schools will be closed for three weeks. Here's what else you need to know.
AVON LAKE, OH — As schools prepare for a mandatory three-week shutdown, other Northeast Ohio institutions are canceling programs and events due to concern over the spread of new coronavirus, COVID-19. Several Avon and Avon Lake institutions are responding to the spread of the virus.
Ohio now has five confirmed cases of coronavirus, COVID-19, Gov. Mike DeWine announced Thursday afternoon. As the virus continues to spread in Ohio, officials are banning any gathering of more than 100 people and are giving Ohio students an extended spring break of three weeks, starting Tuesday, March 17.

In Avon, the following poll location will be moved to protect residents:
- Avenbury Lakes Lodge, 35400 Middleton Drive will be moved to Hopes Christian Church, 32625 Detroit Road
Avon Lake Regional Water
Emergency response and contingency plans are in place to ensure the seamless supply of water to residents. Any employees who become sick are being told to stay home, the regional water said. All employees are following CDC hand hygiene guidelines. The COVID-19 virus has not been detected in any water supplies globally.
Avon Public Library
Enhanced cleaning protocols are being implemented at all Lorain County Library branches. Guests who are vulnerable to COVID-19 are being asked to stay home, as are guests who are showing any signs of illness.
Avon Lake Public Library
The library is maintaining regular hours. Anyone who is ill is asked not to visit the library. Additional cleaning protocols are being implemented in areas which see frequent contact from visitors (desks, computers, etc.)
