Coronavirus In Avon: 9 New Cases
Lorain County is now considered "orange" for its COVID-19 spread.

AVON, OH — At least nine new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Avon last week, the city announced.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, at least 170 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Avon. The Lorain County Health Department is tracking the spread of the virus in Avon and throughout the county.
Avon Mayor Bryan Jensen has urged residents to follow mask mandates and practice social distancing. He said residents have a chance to aid health care workers, who have proved themselves true heroes throughout this pandemic.

"We need to be heroes for them now. All it takes is wearing a mask when you are out in public," Jensen said. "Not only will this help slow the spread of the virus, it tells everybody, I'm supporting our front line workers and protecting my family and friends."
Last week, Lorain County was downgraded to a Level 2 or "orange" county for its COVID-19 spread.

Gov. Mike DeWine said the county was close to still being classified as Level 3 or "red," so residents should continue to follow social distancing requirements, wear masks and limit outside contact.
"Although Butler, Lorain, Summit, and Wood are seeing a slower increase in spread and are now at Orange Alert Level 2, they remain at the CDC's definition of moderately-high incidence of COVID-19," DeWine said.
