Coronavirus In Avon Lake: 3 New Cases, 1 Death

AVON LAKE, OH — Three new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Avon Lake, Mayor Greg Zilka announced this week.

Two of the three newly confirmed cases are among residents in their 20s. The third case is a medical worker, Zilka said.

Since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak, Avon Lake has confirmed 97 total cases among residents.

An Avon Lake resident, age 98, died from COVID-19 this week, Zilka reported.

"We mourn the loss. This brings the number of deaths to 12," the mayor said in a note to the community.

Ohio is seeing a surge in new COVID-19 cases. Seven counties are now under mandatory mask policies due to the virus' spread. The seven impacted counties are Butler, Cuyahoga, Franklin, Hamilton, Huron, Montgomery and Trumbull. Those seven counties are classified as "red," or Level 3, meaning there is severe spread of COVID-19 in the area.

In those seven counties, residents and visitors will need to wear masks inside any public businesses or spaces, offices, on public transportation or ride-sharing services and outside (if distancing is impossible). The order does not apply to children 10 and under.
