Coronavirus In Avon Lake: 4 New Cases, Playgrounds Closed
Health officials confirmed four new cases of COVID-19 in Avon Lake this week.
AVON LAKE, OH — Over the past week, at least four Avon Lake residents tested positive for the new coronavirus, according to Mayor Greg Zilka. Seventy-two residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since the outbreak began in Ohio.
Zilka said Lorain County is confirmed approximately four new cases of COVID-19 daily. Testing capacity has expanded, he said, so some of the people testing positive for the virus are younger and healthier.
"The four who tested positive in Avon Lake are ages 22, 35, 50 and 39. All are recovering at home and doing well. They are considerably younger than those who tested positive in the past," Zilka said.

Playgrounds and the Avon Lake aquatic center will remain closed. Zilka said he does not have the authority to reopen playgrounds yet, and the aquatic center posed too many health threats to reopen.
"We're waiting for the governor's direction on [reopening playgrounds]," Zilka said.
All city-sponsored concerts have been canceled for June. Zilka said he hopes concerts can resume on July.
