Coronavirus In Avon Lake: 8 New Cases, 1 Death

Mayor Greg Zilka said a 54-year-old man died because of COVID-19 complications.

AVON LAKE, OH — An Avon Lake resident died last week from COVID-19 complications.

Mayor Greg Zilka announced the latest COVID-19 statistics for Avon Lake. Last week, he said, there were eight new cases of COVID-19 among residents.

A 54-year-old Avon Lake man also died because of COVID-19 complications.

"We mourn this loss," Zilka said.

Since the start of the pandemic, 15 Avon Lake residents have died because of complications caused by the virus. Ohio recently crossed a tragic milestone, with 5,000 residents dying because of COVID-19.

Last week, Lorain County saw a jump in new COVID-19 cases among residents. Zilka said there were 92 new cases confirmed last week.

On Wednesday, health officials confirmed 2,039 new COVID-19 cases among Ohioans. That's a single-day record, according to Ohio Department of Health data.
