Coronavirus In Avon Lake Update: 5 New Cases

​ There were five new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Avon Lake last week, Mayor Greg Zilka announced.

AVON LAKE, OH — There were five new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Avon Lake last week, Mayor Greg Zilka announced.

Two residents of Avon Lake tested positive for the virus. Of the other cases, one was in a nursing home and two were medical workers. There are currently eight confirmed COVID-19 cases among patients at Main Street Care Center, according to the Ohio Department of Health. Two medical workers at the facility have also tested positive for COVID-19.

As of June 23, Lorain County has confirmed 749 COVID-19 cases. There are another 115 probable cases in the county. The county health department said 500 people have recovered completely from the virus.

At least 58 Lorain County residents have died due to complications from COVID-19, according to the county health department.

On Tuesday, Gov. Mike DeWine acknowledged that Ohio is seeing an uptick in COVID-19 cases. He urged Ohioans to follow physical distancing protocols, wear a mask and get a COVID-19 test if they felt ill. DeWine was then tested for the virus during Tuesday's news conference.
