Coronavirus Cases Up In Avon Lake
Mayor Greg Zilka urged residents to follow social distancing and hygiene guidelines.
AVON LAKE, OH — COVID-19 cases in Lorain County and in Avon Lake are on the rise.
Last week, 23 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed among Avon Lake residents. That's up from nine cases the week previous, Mayor Greg Zilka said.
Lorain County, now classified as "red" for its coronavirus spread, has also seen a surge of new cases. Last week, there were 328 new cases confirmed among county residents, up from 217 the week before.

"We need to be committed to following the protocol of washing hands, social distancing, masks, etc.," Zilka said this week.
The Buckeye State has seen a sustained surge of new COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations across the state. On Tuesday, the state topped 4,000 new cases confirmed in a single day for the first time. On Wednesday, the state did it again.

Gov. Mike DeWine has spent the past several weeks urging Ohioans to wear face masks in public and to practice social distancing.
"Please help slow this spread by social distancing, wearing a mask, and avoiding large gatherings," the governor said on social media.
