Coronavirus Outbreak At Avon Lake Nursing Home Worsens
There are now 21 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus at Avon Lake's Main Street Towne Center Community Campus.
AVON LAKE, OH — There are now at least 21 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus at the Main Street Towne Center Community Campus in Avon Lake. Patients at the nursing home began exhibiting symptoms of the virus early last week.
Avon Lake Mayor Greg Zilka said the virus had spread to 21 people at the facility on Monday. The nursing home is isolating COVID-19 patients and those suspected of contracting the virus, Lorain County Public Health said in a statement.
Staff are using protective equipment to continue care for those impacted. Patients are isolated in a separate quarantine unit and a specific team will be caring only for those impacted.

"Main Street is thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting all resident and common areas within its facilities to Centers for Disease Control (CDC) standard. Education has been conducted with all facility staff regarding proper hand washing, transmission-based precautions, and the appropriate use of PPE. Main Street Care Center has been preparing for this type of scenario for countless hours since the initial onset of the COVID-19 threat," officials said in a statement.
The Main Street facility is located on Community Drive in Avon Lake.

At least two Avon Lake residents have died due to complications from COVID-19, Mayor Greg Zilka said. There are more than 40 confirmed cases of COVID-19 locally.
