Council Approves Hiring Animal Control Officer

Nagel interchange assessments still on minds of citizens

Avon will be getting a part-time animal control officer, after city council approved the creation of the position in Monday night's meeting.

The animal control officer will work with the police department on matters of impounding loose dogs, checking dog licenses, giving out citations to people who don't control their pets or don't register them, assisting with injured dogs, and other assorted duties. The job would be an unclassified part-time position.

Council also voted unanimously to approve two ordinances relating to , and where. The ordinances were in response to a Garden Drive homeowner putting in a hockey rink in their front yard during the winter. A special hearing was held before the regular meeting, but no one got up to speak.

Even though there wasn't anything related to the and the on the agenda for Monday's meeting, concerned residents were not about to let city officials forget about it. Two residents got up to speak, pressing for concrete information on how soon they could expect to hear about a revised ordinance on the . 

Mayor Jim Smith said residents would have ample time to review the new ordnance on the agreement before it went to council again. Agendas and ordinances on them are made available on council's page on the city website once they're released to council members.

Smith also said that assessments of properties near the interchnge were not set in stone, that the only property that will absolutely be assessed at this point in time is Jacobs Group land.
