Counterfeit Cash, Fraudulent Checks In Avon Lake
Police are tracking down suspects that tried to, or did, rip off two local companies.

AVON LAKE, OH — Forged checks and counterfeit cash were passed at Avon Lake institutions over the past few weeks, police said. One local business had 13 counterfeit checks nearly deposited into their account, according to records obtained by Patch.
Last week, the owner of an Avon Lake business came to the police department to report an attempted theft from his company. The man told officers that someone attempted to deposit 13 counterfeit checks into one of his business accounts between September 12 and September 20.
The police report does not say that any of the checks were successfully deposited. The man's bank contacted him and let him know about the strange activity. Avon Lake investigators are looking into the case.

Then, on Monday, a man came into the BP station on Avon Belden Road and asked for change for a $50 bill. The convenience store was slammed with people at the time, according to police records, but the clerk gave the man two $20 bills and one $10 bill. The man then left.
When the store calmed down shortly afterwards, the clerk re-checked the $50 bill. She quickly realized it was a counterfeit. She then contacted police.
