Counterfeit Money Used To Rip Off Avon Teenager

A 14-year-old's X-Box was stolen by two men using counterfeit cash.

AVON LAKE, OH — A 14-year-old Avon boy was ripped off when he tried to sell his X-Box through an online service. The boy met up with two men, in Avon Lake, and they used counterfeit money to purchased the video game console. Police are still investigating the crime.

The teenager used the Letgo app to advertise his X-Box. Two men contacted the boy through the app and said they were interested in buying the console.

On October 30, the two men met the teenager on Vanda Avenue in Avon Lake. They gave him three $100 bills, took the X-Box and then left. It isn't clear which direction the buyers went after getting the console.

After the device changed hands, the boy's father discovered the $100 bills were replicas. The father wasn't able to provide a vehicle description or license plate number to police.

Investigators said they are still trying to identify the suspects.
