COVID-19 In Avon, Avon Lake: ZIP Code Updates
Avon and Avon Lake have seen an increase in COVID-19 cases locally since December.
AVON, OH — There have been more than 1,200 COVID-19 cases associated with an Avon ZIP code, according to the Ohio Department of Health.
The 44011 ZIP code in Avon has had 1,272 COVID-19 cases among residents since the pandemic began. The ZIP code associated with Avon Lake — 44012 — has had 1,178 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began.
Since the start of the pandemic, Lorain County has had 15,790 confirmed cases of COVID-19 among residents, according to the state health department. Lorain currently ranks 21 out of Ohio's 88 counties for highest occurrence of COVID-19, with 760.4 cases per 100,000 residents. Between Dec. 21 and Jan. 3, there were 2,356 active COVID-19 cases among Lorain County residents.

After seeing declining cases, Ohio saw a surge in COVID-19 hospitalizations on Tuesday, the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) reported. Ohio's current COVID-19 hospitalization level is three times what it was on Nov. 1 and seven times what it was on Oct. 1.
"Our hospitals are extremely busy and we haven't yet begun to see what the impact may be from the holiday. We have a lot of road ahead and we can't forget COVID-19 safety," said Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff, chief medical officer for ODH.

Approximately 1.5 percent of Ohioans have started the COVID-19 vaccine (nearly 175,000 people), according to the Ohio Department of Health. Vaccine distribution should begin for new groups of Ohioans in the next month or so, Gov. Mike DeWine indicated Tuesday.
