🌱 COVID Monies Spent On Video Cameras + Local Breweries Win Awards
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Avon-Avon Lake.
Happy Saturday, Avon-Avon Lake! Here's everything happening in and around town today.
First, today's weather:
Chilly with a few showers. High: 49 Low: 44.
Here are the top three stories in Avon-Avon Lake today:
- Cleveland, Akron, North Olmsted, and Canton are spending millions of COVID-19 stimulus dollars to purchase surveillance cameras for law enforcement. Those in favor say the cameras help to deter and solve crimes, while those against the surveillance measures claim it further erodes civil rights and hurts police-community relations. The monies being spent are part of the $350B state and local governments received through the American Rescue Plan Act to recover from the financial impact of the pandemic. - The local community has rallied around Avon cheerleader, Emily Culkar, the 16-year-old passenger who was pulled out of a fiery vehicle crash last Monday. A good samaritan, who saw people trapped in the car, pulled the teen out despite a warning from 911 dispatch not to intervene. Emily's family released a statement thanking the community for the overwhelming outpouring of support. (Cleveland 19 News)
- Five Northeast Ohio breweries and 13 throughout the state won 15 medals at the World Beer Cup awards in Minneapolis on Thursday. "Our independent breweries continue to show that we're making some of the world's best beer right here in Ohio," said Mary MacDonald, executive director of the Ohio Craft Brewers Association. Local breweries that won awards include Fat Head's Brewery, Hoppin' Frog Brewery, HiHO Brewing Co., Immigrant Son Brewery, and Sibling Revelry Brewing. (Cleveland.com)
