CPR Classes Coming To Avon

In an emergency, knowing what to do could save someone's life.

AVON, OH — The Avon Fire Department is offering CPR and AED classes to both the medical community and residents without any medical training. One session has already been held, with more slated to occur through March.

Each class is led by an American Heart Association instructor and lasts between three and four hours. Classes will be composed of six to 12 people. Registration costs $25 per person. To sign up, call the fire department at 440-934-1222 or email fdavon@fdavon.com.

  • Thursday, February 8 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, April 18 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Upcoming sessions for people with medical backgrounds:

  • Wednesday, January 17 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.
  • Wednesday, March 14 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Some nearby cities are employing the use of PulsePoint, an app that alerts users to nearby cardiac crises. Then users can choose to help out using their CPR skills or by going to get a defibrillator. According to PulsePoint, more than half of American adults have had some kind of CPR training. Yet only 11 percent of those adults have ever actually performed CPR.
