Crisis Facility For Kids Expanding In Lorain County
Blessing House of Lorain offers shelter to children whose families are dealing with mental illness, addiction or unemployment.

LORAIN, OH — Blessing House of Lorain is expanding to meet the needs of more children in crisis. The facility is launching a $3.3 million funding campaign to create a larger, more efficient Blessing House.
Blessing House has been a fixture in Lorain for 15 years. The facility offers a home-away-from-home for children whose families find themselves mired in difficult transitions or grappling with serious crises, like unemployment, addiction or mental illness. Since its inception, the number of children waiting to find shelter in Blessing House has increased.
“Children and families are at the very heart of all we do at Blessing House. The need to expand is real. The number of families who are in crisis mode and who need us now…is real. It’s a blessing to be an extended family to them when they need it most. Blessing House is truly God’s Project Of Hope,” said Sister Mary Berigan.

On November 9, during the annual Rock-a-Bye Ball, Blessing House will announce the official launch of its new, larger facility. The new complex will be more than 16,000 square feet, allowing Blessing House staff to triple the number of children they serve and reduce the number of children on the waiting list. Blessing House will continue to offer academic support, nutritious meals, clothing and a homelike environment to kids.
The Rock-a-Bye Ball will be held at 6 p.m. at Tom's Country Place in Avon. The evening will include food, music, dancing and entertainment with live and silent auctions and raffles. Online bidding for the silent auction opens November 4.
