Crushers Fall in Shutout Against Rockford Riverhawks

The 2-0 loss puts the Crushers a half game behind the Traverse City Beach Bums for the final playoff spot of the Frontier League's Eastern Division.

Rockford right-hander Brett Scarpetta snapped the Crushers’ (47-42) four-game winning streak as he held Lake Erie to just three hits in a complete game shutout on Sunday night at Β 

The 2-0 loss is just the third shutout this year for the Crushers, and it was no easy feat for the Riverhawks (35-55).Β 

Lake Erie starting pitcher Thomas Campbell (4-3) took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, but finally gave up a hit to Michael Hur that produced one of the only two runs that were scored, the team reported.Β

Β The second run came later in the inning when Matt Greener ground out, allowing Jake Eigsti to score.Β 

Scarpetta (7-6) held the Crushers to just three singles and struck out seven to put the game away.Β

The win is the first in seven games for the Riverhawks, and the defeat puts the Crushers a half game behindΒ  the Traverse City Beach Bums for the final playoff spot in the Frontier League’s Eastern Division.Β 

The Crushers are off on Monday, but will begin a three-game series with the Washington Wild Things at All Pro Freight Stadium on Tuesday night.Β 

Crushers’ right-hander Eric Gonzalez (3-1, 3.04) is set to throw the first pitch at 7:05 p.m.
