Cyclist Killed In Crash Was From Avon Lake

A 60-year-old Avon Lake man was killed in a bicycle-car crash in Gibsonburg over the weekend.

GIBSONBURG, OH — An Avon Lake man was killed when he was hit by an SUV after riding his bicycle into an intersection on Sunday. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the man didn't stop for a stop sign during a triathalon and then hit the SUV's front fender, launching him off his bike.

Mark Wladecki, 60, of Avon Lake, was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, the Toledo Blade reported. Investigators do not believe Wladecki was impaired.

Wladecki was cycling west, on Township Road 55, in Gibsonburg on Sunday morning. Just before 9 a.m., he went past a stop sign at the County Road 32 intersection. His bicycle clipped the front fender of an SUV and he was tossed from the bike. The News Messenger reported Wednesday that Wladecki was taking part in a triathlon.
