Dog Allegedly Shot In The Nose After Getting Loose In Elyria

The accused shooter reportedly said a pit bull got loose and was chasing children.

ELYRIA, OH — A loose pit bull was allegedly shot by a Lorain man visiting relatives on Neufer Court in Elyria. The man reportedly told police the dog was chasing children in the front yard of the house he was at, so he came out and shot the animal.

Donte Love, 41, now faces charges of killing or injuring an animal, discharging firearms, receiving stolen property, and having weapons under disability, because of a previous felony conviction.

The alleged shooting happened on Sunday at about 7 p.m. Love told police he was visiting a relative when he heard screaming outside. He looked and saw a pit bull chasing children. He then allegedly went outside and shot the dog in the nose, according to Cleveland 19.

The animal extent of the dog's injuries are unknown. No children were hurt in the incident.

The firearm that Love used was allegedly stolen, hence the receiving stolen property charge.
