Driver Left Scene Of Avon Lake Accident, Police Say
Officers found car parts and a damaged mailbox spread across the front lawn of a Lake Road home. They then tracked down the responsible car.
AVON LAKE, OH — On Saturday morning, an Avon Lake police officer saw car parts and a wrecked mailbox scattered across the front yard of a Lake Road home.
It was 1:50 a.m. and the officer investigated to see what had happened. A front license plate was found amid the debris on the lawn, police said.
Officers were then able to track down the responsible vehicle — a 2013 Ford Focus — in a nearby parking lot. The car was unoccupied. Police had the vehicle towed and impounded and then went to find the owner.

It took another day for officers to track down the owner of the car.
Police eventually located the driver — a 30-year-old Avon Lake man. They interviewed him about the incident.

The driver was cited for leaving the scene of an accident and failing to maintain reasonable control, police said. He was given a court date of April 9 in the Avon Lake Municipal Court.
