Duct Tape Skyline: Avon Students Create Art
The students created the New York City skyline using duct tape to commemorate their upcoming prom, "A Night In New York City".
AVON, OH — With Avon High School Prom coming up, some art students decided to provide a unique and gorgeous skyline for the evening. The theme of this year's prom is "A Night In New York City". Now, students will have a chance to admire the city's famous skyline courtesy of some ingenious art students and a whole lot of duct tape.
Karen Busch, an art teacher at the high school, told Patch the whole project started like so many other great ideas, with pizza and a movie. The Avon High School Art Club got together to enjoy some pizza pie and the documentary "Exit Through the Gift Shop", a film chronicling Banksy and other street and graffiti artists.
Inspired by the antics of Banksy, and a load of donated duct tape from ShurTek, the students decided to create some new art in a public space. The benefit of the tape is that it is removable and does not damage the surface it is applied to.

Busch said the students got approval to create the New York City skyline and decided to create their art. Eight students worked on the project for about two hours. Busch said the hard part of the project was creating curves or detailed shapes.
"Overall, I think it was very successful and would like to use duct tape in this space again in the future to promote school events!" Busch told Patch.
