Elyria Man Sentenced For Illegally Having Gun
Gregory Raymore will spend more than a decade in prison after police discovered he illegally had a firearm, the DOJ said.
ELYRIA, OH — An Elyria man was sentenced to 11 years in prison for illegally having a gun, the Department of Justice announced this week.
Gregory Raymore, 32, was convicted in early 2019 of being a felon in possession of a firearm. U.S. District Judge Donald Nugent then sentenced Raymore to 110 months in prison. He sentenced Raymore to an additional two years in prison for violating the terms of his supervised release for a previous crime.
“A man with a long history of crimes was found, as part of a murder investigation, to have a gun and ammunition,” U.S. Attorney Justin Herdman said. “Defendants like this pose a danger to our community and we are safer with him behind bars. The Lorain Police Department and FBI did a tremendous job investigating this case.”

Raymore's gun was found during a murder investigation, the DOJ said.
Lorain police were called to a shooting in an alleyway, outside a bar, in May 2018. Investigators found the gun, and ammunition, near the crime scene. The weapon had Raymore's DNA on it, the DOJ said.

Police discovered the gun was not used in the alleyway shooting, according to trial testimony.
The gun was a .45-caliber handgun. Investigators also found 22 rounds of ammunition for the weapon.
Raymore was barred from having a gun because of his previous convictions for aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, possession of drugs and being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to trial testimony and court documents.
