  1. Reportedly,, a new bill was signed into law Monday, by Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, allowing school districts across the state to authorize teachers, principals and other staff to carry guns into classrooms with just 24 hours of training. According to a Fox News article, "the new law, which was initially introduced by state Republican Rep. Thomas Hall as House Bill 99, reduces the required training hours for the armed personnel. Previously approximately 700 hours of training was needed, now just four hours of training in scenario-based or simulated training exercises and a maximum of 20 hours for first aid training, history of school shootings and reunification education is required, (The Columbus Dispatch reported)." In addition, several other school safety measures have been taken including $100 million for school security upgrades and another $5 million for college security upgrades. (Fox News)
  2. As a special tribute and way to remember Garrett and Grant Hull, the Erieview PTA recently raised funds to purchase a new carousel for the playground that will be dedicated in celebration of the boys' lives. According to the Facebook post about the equipment, "the intent is for Erieview students and the greater Avon Lake community to be able to enjoy this equipment as a wonderful and on-going tribute to the Hull boys." Currently, the area where the new carousel will be installed is being prepped. Park & Play has donated the labor installation. Reportedly, a special dedication ceremony will be held when the Erieview students return to school in the fall. (Garrett and Grant were found dead in the family home along with their mother, father and dog in September of 2021. Reportedly, their father shot the members of the family before taking his own life.) (Avon Lake City Schools via Facebook)
  3. According to an article on Cleveland.com, "The Avon City Council will be voting on a resolution at its next council meeting that includes taking a new look at rules and regulations for owning farm animals within city limits. The resolution asks for a six-month moratorium on “the keeping of any new equine and fur-bearing animals and the performance of new poultry husbandry as part of farm use within the R-1 single family and R-3 multi-family residential zones as addressed in part 12 of the City of Avon codified ordinances.” The article states that Mayor Bryan Jensen said “A lot has changed in the 50 years since the last legislation was passed. I don’t believe anyone wants to ban people from raising animals, but I think everyone needs to know what the expectations are.” (cleveland.com)
