Fentanyl Exposure At Lorain City Jail Sends 6 To Hospital

The majority of exposed people were police officers and paramedics.

LORAIN, OH - Six people at the Lorain City Jail were exposed to fentanyl. Three police officers, two paramedics and one inmate were taken to Mercy Medical for treatment.

The Lorain Fire Department was dispatched to the jail a little before 1 a.m. They transported the affected persons and were seen removing a substance from the jail. All six of the exposed persons were in good condition on Thursday morning.

According to Fox 8, firefighters were seen in their HAZMAT gear hosing down items and placing clothes in garbage bags.

Skin-to-drug contact with fentanyl can cause an overdose. In May 2017, an East Liverpool police officer was nearly killed when he accidentally touched the narcotic during a traffic stop. The officer overdosed and had to be given Narcan, an anti-overdose drug, to save his life.
