Fire At Avon Lake Restaurant Contained By Firefighters

AVON LAKE, OH — The Caslon restaurant and pub was damaged by a fire on early Sunday, according to Avon Lake Fire Chief Jeremy Betsa and police records obtained by Patch. No one was hurt in the fire, but there was smoke damage done to the structure.

Firefighters were sent to the Lake Road restaurant at 1:30 a.m. on Sunday. When they arrived, the Caslon was full of smoke. Crews had to force their way into the building and the fire was found in a utility room.

The fire was extinguished within 5 minutes of firefighters arriving. The fire damage was contained to the utility room, but the entire building suffered smoke damage.

Investigators are still determining what caused the fire.

"There was no one injured at this incident and no damage to fire department equipment," Betsa told Patch in an email. Photos of the fire won't be released until investigators complete their inquiry.

Avon Lake firefighters received assistance from Sheffield Lake fire department, Sheffield Village fire department and Bay Village fire department.

The Caslon remains closed while renovations are completed.
