Fire Burns Avon Lake Trailer Down

The city-owned trailer was consumed by flames on October 27. Firefighters were able to contain the flames, but there wasn't much to salvage.

AVON LAKE, OH — A city-owned trailer burned down October 27. No one was hurt in the blaze, but the flames did destroy much of the trailer unit, according to an Avon Lake firefighter.

The trailer was near the police department's shooting range, on Avon Belden Road. An officer saw the trailer engulfed in flames and contacted the fire crews, according to reports obtained by Patch.

Firefighters arrived and were able to get the blaze under control. Lieutenant Steve Peter said there was a small amount of ammunition kept in the trailer, so firefighters were extra cautious as they battled the flames.

The lack of a nearby fire hydrant presented other problems for fire crews. Once the fire was contained, it actually rekindled slightly. Luckily, the rainy evening helped firefighters efforts.

"A good section [of the trailer] was engulfed when they firefighters got there," Peter said. "There wasn't much they could save."

Investigators are still looking into what started the fire. At this time, there's no suggestion of foul play. Instead, fire department officials believe the blaze may have originated from the electrical circuit — possibly due to a short circuit, Peter told Patch.
