Flood Watch Issued For Lorain County
With 2 to 3 inches of rain expected to fall through Friday night, residents should be on guard for potential flooding.

AVON, OH - A flood watch has been issued for Lorain County by the National Weather Service (NWS). The watch will remain in effect until late Friday night. Heavy rain is expected throughout most of Northwest Ohio, with 2 to 3 inches set to fall.
The county sent out an alert at 10 a.m. warning residents of possible flooding. If your home or basement is prone to sewer backups, you should take precautions to protect your valuables, the county said.
The NWS says the rainfall is the result of a low pressure system moving over the Mississippi Valley through the Ohio Valley. The system is expected to continue to move northeast toward the eastern Great Lakes on Saturday.

The rainfall is expected to hit northwest Ohio particularly hard because there is a warm front that stalled in the area. As previously mentioned, 2 to 3 inches of rain are expected to fall in the region. Elevated river levels and moist ground conditions will enhance the threat of flooding, the NWS says.
The NWS issues a Flood Watch when there is a potential for flooding in a given area. Areas prone to flooding should be ready to take action if flooding does occur. Residents should also monitor their local forecasts and remain alert for developing flood conditions near them.
