Flu Shot Clinic Comes To Avon Lake
Residents can get a flu shot at the Old Firehouse Community Center on November 5.
AVON LAKE, OH — A flu shot clinic will be held in Avon Lake on November 5. Residents can get their vaccinations at the Old Firehouse Community Center from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The clinic will be run by the Lorain County Public Health Department.
Flu season is now in full swing, the Ohio Department of Health said. Last year, nearly 9,900 Ohioans were hospitalized because of the flu and four children were killed by the flu. Getting a flu shot can reduce the chance of getting sick.
“Flu vaccination can help keep you from getting sick, missing work or school, and prevent flu-related hospitalization and death,” said ODH Director Dr. Amy Acton. “Getting vaccinated is especially important for older adults, young children, pregnant women, and people with long-term health conditions who are more vulnerable to serious flu complications.”

Symptoms of the flu include fever, nausea, coughing, sore throat, body aches, chills and fatigue. If a person begins exhibiting these symptoms they should see a doctor and then isolate themselves within their home.
“If you get sick with the flu, stay home from work or school to prevent spreading it to others,” said Dr. Acton.

Besides getting the vaccination, Ohioans should also wash their hands frequently, or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. When coughing or sneezing, always cover your mouth with your elbow. Avoid touching your face as much as possible and stay home from work when sick.
