Good Samaritan Helps Avon Lake Cops Catch Drunken Driver: Police

AVON LAKE, OH — A Good Samaritan followed a suspected drunken driver until police could catch up to the car, according to Avon Lake police reports.

At about 8:30 p.m. on Monday, April 15, police received a call from a person following a suspect drunken driver near Moore Road. The caller, a passenger in the car, said they had seen the car ahead of them drive off the right of the road on several occasions.

The caller then said the other car would overcorrect left, into oncoming traffic, causing other cars to swerve to avoid head-on collisions.

Police tracked down the car of the suspected drunken driver and found it parked in the driveway of a home. The driver, a 56-year-old Avon Lake man, was arrested on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

The driver has since appeared in Avon Lake Municipal Court and entered a not guilty plea to the charges, court records show. The case will enter pre-trial on April 30.
