Hairbrush, Hat, Gas Can Stolen From Car In Avon Lake

AVON LAKE, OH — An opportunistic thief snatched a motley collection of items from a car in Avon Lake at the end of May. Among the stolen items: a hairbrush, a gas can, and a hat. The thief also snatched the more traditional target of criminals, a debit card.

More details on that incident and other crimes from recent weeks are below.

Theft, May 15 — Two frames were taken from the Avon Lake Eye Care. An employee discovered the theft and reported it to police. After an investigation, charges were drawn up for a male suspect, police said.

Burglary, May 26 — A former employee of a senior care facility is on video going into a resident's room and talking to her. It's not clear if anything is missing from the woman's room.

Theft, May 26 — Someone stole a debit card, a hairbrush, a hat, and a gas can from a car parked on Armour Road. The gas can was later located on the resident's street.

Identity Theft, May 29 — The Miami-Dade Express Authority contacted an Avon Lake resident about an unpaid toll charge. However, the vehicle registration the Authority was using had expired in 2015, the same time the resident's identity was stolen. Avon Lake Police contacted Miami-Dade and told them of the possible falsification.

OVI, May 29 — A Sheffield Lake man was arrested after he allegedly hit a fence and cooler with his car, police said.
