Heroin Epidemic Sculpture Comes To Avon's Little League Park
The sculpture depicts the high and plummeting low of heroin addiction. It will be on display from Feb. 21 to March 7.
AVON, OH - A traveling art exhibit on the struggles and ills of the heroin epidemic will be coming to Avon on Feb. 21 through March 7. The traveling sculpture will be displayed at 36744 Detroit Road in Avon (in front of Little League Park) for two weeks.
“It’s meant to get people talking with one another about heroin and the opioid crisis facing our communities right now,” says Avon Mayor Bryan Jensen in a statement.
The art exhibit illustrates the high and the plummeting low of heroin addiction. The sculpture is made out of recycled materials and stands at 14 feet tall and 15 feet wide. The sculpture is composed of sculpted human legs and syringes.

The artist, Ryan Poignon, said the sculpture is unnamed for a reason. “I didn’t give the sculpture a name because I want people to put their personal interpretation with it when they see it,” says Poignon.
Jensen says the sculpture is uncomfortable to look at, but that's the point. He believes it will help drive conversation about the heroin epidemic.

As part of the art installation, a local organization will also pass out letters of encouragement to deliver to people in recovery from Lorain County.
City officials are also providing a plaque with the hashtag #Fight For Recovery and are encouraging the public to share a photo of themselves posing with the hashtag and the sculpture on their personal social media platforms to help bring addiction awareness into the mainstream public realm.
