Holy Trinity School Earns STEM Award 2nd Year in a Row

For the second consecutive year, The Ohio Academy of Science has selected Holy Trinity School to receive the Governor's Thomas Edison Award.

For the second consecutive year, The Ohio Academy of Science has selected Holy Trinity School in Avon, Ohio to receive the Governor’s Thomas Edison Award for Excellence in STEM Education. The award recognizes schools and teachers who display excellence in STEM-based teaching and learning.

Second grade teacher, Mrs. Laura Waltos recognizes the importance of STEM education and helped collaborate on the school’s application.

“Children are born curious about the world around them. They learn by doing. It is our job as educators to meet them where they are and give them the tools they need to explore that world. Science, math and technology are all around us. It is important to incorporate these things into education to help bring learning to life and connect it to real world experiences.”

Holy Trinity School is one of 61 Ohio schools to be honored for their efforts in STEM education in the 2017-2018 school year. The Ohio Academy of Science defines STEM education as both the mastery and integration of science technology, engineering, and mathematics for all PK-12 students. It incorporates scientific inquiry and technological design through student-focused, project-based curricula to develop skills of communication, teamwork/collaboration, creativity/innovation, critical thinking and problem solving.
