Here are the top three stories in Avon-Avon Lake today:
- The ninth annual Avon Lake Hooks for Hunger fishing competition fundraiser was a huge success this year raising a total of $28,237 for Avon Lake Community Resource Service. According to Cleveland.com, first place went to Jake Gibson, second place to Joe Gibson and third place to Bryan Fisher. Congratulations fishermen! (cleveland.com)
- According to a Cleveland.com article, Avon Lake's Economic Development Director Ted Esborn will be heading up a new department soon that will contain the departments of zoning and planning as well as economic development. The new department will be called, Community Development, combining all three city departments into one. The intent of the new department is, in part, to help new businesses coming into town have procedures cut a little bit shorter without running around to various departments. (cleveland.com)
- In an effort to help Officer Lex and her partner Officer Blankenship get all their necessary safety equipment and training gear, Design Engineering Inc. will be holding a cruise night benefit on Saturday, August 20, between 4 and 8 p.m. at Weiss Baseball Fields in Avon Lake, and all cars, trucks, and motorcycles are welcome,$10 per vehicle donation. Spectators are free. There will be food and music, and Lex will be doing demonstrations throughout the afternoon. The first 300 registrants will also get a commemorative gift. Officer Lex is a 14-month-old K9 officer who will be partnered with Officer Blankenship. They just completed their training together and have started patrols.
