Here are the top three stories today in Avon-Avon Lake:

  1. Are electric vehicles a good thing or a bad thing for Ohio's economy? According to cleveland.com, "the shift from gasoline-fueled engines to fully electric vehicles could be an opportunity and a threat, to Ohio's economy. But there's reason to believe the Buckeye State is in the driver's seat. Automakers are spending billions of dollars to shift from gasoline. Electric vehicle manufacturing could create thousands of new jobs, but it could also make thousands of jobs tied to making gasoline-powered vehicles obsolete. There are 91,600 auto jobs in Ohio — either assembling vehicles or making parts, according to the latest data from August. That's down from August 1990, when Ohio had 144,000 auto jobs. But the state still has the second largest automotive workforce in the country, according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. "We see Ohio as the vehicle state, past, present and future," Ryan Augsburger, president and CEO of the Ohio Manufacturers Association said. "And we are supporting policies to make sure we continue to be the vehicle state."'(cleveland.com)

Ron Kaminski will present "The Progressive Movement and Climate Change in America." Attendees can learn something new and participate in a casual free exchange of ideas about current positions with like-minded and concerned candidates, officials and neighbors every first Wednesday, according to a news release. Guests are welcomed and attendees are responsible for their meals, the release stated." (Subscribe The Morning Journal)

From my notebook:

  • FIDO's Companion Rescue Inc.: "Meet Selena! She's a petite pittie weighing in at 30 pounds. Selena is about 2 years old, fully vetted, house & crate trained, and good with other dogs. Selena would prefer experienced owners and a home without small children. " (FIDO's Companion Rescue Inc. via Facebook)
  • Avon Lake Public Library: "Quack, quack. Waddle, waddle. Two lil' ducks waddled their way out of the rain and came inside to warm up and dry out while visiting the fish in the Children's Department aquarium this morning." (Avon Lake Public Library via Facebook)
  • Avon Lake City Schools: "A public hearing for 2023-2024, 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 school year calendars must be held at least 30 days prior to adopting its school schedule. Therefore, the Avon Lake Board of Education has set a date." (Avon Lake City Schools via Facebook)
