AVON, OH — Of Ohio's 88 counties, Lorain County has the 51st highest spread of COVID-19 locally.
The Ohio Department of Health released its updated rankings of Ohio's 88 counties based on the highest occurrence of new COVID-19 cases. The latest rankings are based on data from Aug. 17 to Aug. 30. The rankings are based on cases per 100,000 residents.
Lorain County ranked 51st among Ohio's 88 counties for highest occurrence of COVID-19 cases, the Ohio Department of Health said. During the last two weeks of August, Lorain County averaged 49.1 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents.

The county had 152 cases during the two-week survey period.
Despite its low ranking among Ohio counties, Lorain is currently classified as "red" for its "very high rate" of COVID-19 spread locally. That classification may be downgraded on Thursday, when the state's color-coded COVID-19 warning system is updated.
