Intoxicated Man Climbs Avon Lake Building, Fights Police

According to police reports, a man was spotted on the roof of the Aqua Marine Club House at 10:30 p.m. on May 4.

AVON LAKE, OH — Police struggled to detain a man that climbed onto the roof of the Aqua Marine Club House on May 4.

According to Avon Lake police reports, officers were sent to the club house at 10:30 p.m. because an intoxicated man had scrambled onto the roof and was causing damage to the building. The suspect was reportedly tearing shingles off the roof.

When police arrived, they saw two men pinning down the suspect on the west side of the property. The two men were trying to hold the suspect immobile on the ground. The suspect was struggling and bucking, his face covered in blood.

A responding officer identified himself and the suspect continued to resist, punching and kicking the officer in the chest and groin, police reports said. The suspect also tried to spit blood on the officer.

After he was taken into custody, the man was transported to the Avon Lake Police Department.

The suspect is being charged with assault on a police officer, aggravated menacing, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Additional charges are pending a review of the damage caused to the Aqua Marine Club House.

The suspect, a 22-year-old man, has made his initial appearance in Avon Lake Municipal Court. He entered a not guilty plea to the charge of aggravated menacing. A pre-trial hearing has been set for May 16, court records show.
