Jungle Terry, Sidewalk Chalk Draw at Avon Lake Library

With school out, the Avon Lake Public Library could be a perfect getaway for a few hours this week.

Pre-teens to young adults can show off their art skills and enjoy a summer treat after. It's just one of several activities being hosted by the in the upcoming two weeks. Some events require pre-registration.

Don't forget our Summerfest ("music on the lawn") beginning Tuesday, June 7 at 7 p.m.  with a concert by .  This steel drum band will perform everything from Latin and Jazz to Top 40 and Reggae...with, of course, a little Jimmy Buffet thrown in. Bring your own lawn chair or blanket.

Create your own chalk masterpiece on Avon Lake Public Library's sidewalks on Tuesday, June 14 from 1   p.m. – 2 p.m., followed by an ice cream sundae bar. Register at the Young Adult desk or by calling 440-933-8128, ext. 247. For ages 11 – 18.

Rain Barrels

City Engineer Joe Reitz will demonstrate the easy and inexpensive construction of rain barrels to collect rainwater and redirect it to your lawn and gardens on Wednesday, June 15 at 7 p.m.. Rain barrels will be available for purchase; the cost is $20.

 Create-a-Craft Days

Drop-in on Wednesdays, beginning June 15 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. to create the craft of the day. Children under 6 must be accompanied by an adult. Sponsored by the Friends of Avon Lake Public Library.

Tree House Club – Cave Crystals

Enter the world of caves and grow your own crystals on Thursday, June 16 from 1 p.m. – 1:45 p.m. For ages 8 – 11. Registration begins June 8 and can be done in DiscoveryWorks or by calling 440-933-7848.

Small Business Resource Connection – Growing Your Business 2011

For the entrepreneur and small business owner, join us on Thursday, June 16 from 9 a.m. – 11 am to learn about using social media to grow your business. Dive into the details of LinkedIn and how to use profiles and company pages to promote your business.

Board Meeting

Avon Lake Public Library Board of Trustees meets Thursday, June 9 at 7 p.m. The 2012 budget hearing will take place during this meeting. The meeting is open to the public.

Knitting Group

Join our new knitting group at Avon Lake Public Library. Knitters of all skill levels are welcome to join presenter Valerie Dillard from 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. on the second Monday of the month this summer, beginning June 13. Bring your own needles and yarn and Valerie will teach the basics to new knitter or help those already working on a project. Ages 16 and up. Story Times Begin

All Story Times begin Monday, June 13 and end Thursday, July 21. There is no registration for Story Times. Numbered tickets are available, beginning one-half hour before each scheduled time. Tickets are picked up on a first-come, first-served basis each week.
