Kiwanis Clubs Name Service Award After Avon Lake's Bob Marimon

Avon Lake Kiwanian Robert Marimon will long be remembered for his commitment to enhance the lives of children as representatives of the eight Lorain County Kiwanis Clubs voted to establish the Division 13 Member of the Year award in his honor.
Marimon was a 45-year member of the Avon Lake Kiwanis Club. He died in June at the age of 98.

Marimon, an Avon Lake resident since 1938, was a second generation Kiwanian as his father Robert was a charter member of the Avon Lake club. He joined Kiwanis in 1975 and served as the President of the Avon Lake Club in 1986/87 and as Lt. Governor for the 13th Division in 1993/94. He served as the treasurer for 23 years for Avon Lake Kiwanis and seven years for the division. He was inducted into the Ohio Kiwanis Hall of Fame in 2016 and was named a George Hixon Fellow, a prestigious Kiwanis honor for years of dedicated service to the organization and local community.

“The honors and awards he earned speak for themselves,” Avon Lake President Chuck Fye told division leaders when they met June 24. “As treasurer, Bob served 23 different club presidents and seven different Lt. Governors. He was the glue that kept everything together and on track. He was an outstanding fund-raiser. He was just a great leader and someone we all respected.”
Division members voted to establish the “Robert ‘Bob’ Marimon Division 13 Member of the Year Award” in his honor plus issue a $250 check in his memory to the Ohio Kiwanis District Foundation.

Division 13 has eight Kiwanis clubs working in Lorain County with nearly 200 members. Clubs are located in Elyria, Wellington, Avon Lake, North Ridgeville, Grafton, and Avon, with Lorain and Vermilion re-forming clubs this spring.
