Kopf Objects to Tower in Walker Road Park
Kopf Builders owns property in front of park where AT&T wants tower built.

Avon Lake developer Herman “Bucky” Kopf is objecting to a by the city of Bay Village in Walker Road Park.
Kopf is the president of Kopf Builders, a major developer headquartered in Avon Lake.
The park, which sits entirely in Avon Lake, is co-owned and managed by both Avon Lake and Bay Village. Bay Village introduced a review of placing a tower in the park.

The project has been delayed pending a change in attorneys representing the tower.
“As you know, we own the land north of the park and plan to develop it sometime in the near future,” Kopf's letter to Council President Greg Zilka said. “We are extremely opposed to the placement of a cell tower in that area and feel it will detract from the value and marketability for the land we own.”

Avon Lake and Bay Village officials met April 20 in Bay Village to discuss the concept. A representative from AT&T, who was requesting the tower be erected in the park, said is the only location that will support a cell tower capable of covering dead zones on Lake Road and in the area.
“The only place not in someone’s front yard is Walker Road Park,” lawyer Jim Miller, who was representing AT&T at the time, said in April. “If we had another location not in the park, we would have taken it. We have a spot on our grid not covered and we want to put a tower there.”
Kopf said he preferred not to comment further on the issue at the time.
