Kos Announces Formal Candidacy, Highlights First-Term’s Achievements
Councilman said he will focus on retaining and expanding post office in present location if re-elected

Avon Lake Ward 4 Councilman David Kos formally announced his candidacy for re-election last week, filing petitions with the Lorain County Board of Elections on July 29.
Kos said he has been part of several plans that made significant strides since he was elected in November 2007, including the city pool and the project, now underway, which will provide additional access to Troy Intermediate and alleviate bus traffic on Belmar Boulevard.
“When I fist went down Belmar that was a consistent complaint of traffic,” Kos said of the road providing the only access to the school, which houses fifth and sixth-graders. “It was a safety issue for Troy if there was a disaster.”

He also noted the addition of a traffic light on Avon Belden Road at Pin Oak Parkway, which is expected to be completed soon, as an achievement.
“It’s something I’ve been talking about for a long time,” he said. “The light was warranted and I’ve supported and advocated it for a long time.”

Kos said he was a staunch supporter of renovating the community pool before it went on the ballot and remains an advocate of preserving local history. He was instrumental in creating a 15-page piece of legislation through the city's to identify and preserve landmarks.
“That’s my passion, historic preservation,” Kos, who grew up in Lorain but has deep roots in Avon Lake, said. “History means so much to me, with my family’s history in Avon Lake. We need to keep that. We don’t want to be a community of strip malls and condos. We’ll be able to preserve our past for our future. It’s the soul of a community and that’s what we’re preserving. That’s going to be my legacy.”
Kos, who goes door-to-door in his ward at least once a year said if re-elected he will turn his focus to stabilizing the post office at its present location in his ward.
“I’ll work with the property owners, Post Office and Congresswoman Betty Sutton's office to keep it and expand it, if possible,” Kos said. “I’ll consider kiosks in the area. That is something that is a lifeblood to the west side shopping area. Brings people and shopping to that area.”
