Labor Day 2018: What's Closed In Avon, Avon Lake
Trash will be delayed and most city facilities will be closed Monday.

AVON LAKE, OH — Monday is Labor Day and that means many public buildings will be closed. Patch has compiled a list of some of the closures that may impact you.
In Avon Lake, all city buildings will be closed and the regularly scheduled city council meeting will be cancelled. Trash and recycling collection will be delayed by one day, to Tuesday.
The Avon Lake Public Library will be closed for Labor Day. The Avon Lake City Schools will also be closed on Monday.

For the historians out there (or the plain curious), the first Labor Day holiday was Tuesday, September 5, 1882. New York's labor unions led the charge to have a holiday. The New York Tribune reported that, "The windows and roofs and even the lamp posts and awning frames were occupied by persons anxious to get a good view of the first parade in New York of workingmen of all trades united in one organization."
