'Lacrosse Fest' Debuts This Saturday

Boys, girls teams will play 3 consecutive games at Memorial Stadium.

The Avon Lake Lacrosse Club, will host β€œLacrosse Fest” this Saturday, May 5.

Three consecutive games will be played at . The girls team will take on Medina at 11 a.m. followed by the boys JV Gold team against Brecksville. At 3 p.m., the boys varsity team will battle Wadsworth.

The girls game and the varsity boys game with Wadsworth are varsity level league games.

β€œWe’re hoping to make this an annual event for our club,” Narda Henry, a board trustee with the club, said.

Henry said the club’s board of directors came up with the idea to showcase the game.Β

β€œSo many people are unfamiliar with lacrosse,” she said. β€œSince it is the fastest growing sport in America, we thought a day full of lacrosse games would make a perfect way to expose Avon Lake to the game.”

Henry said the program has players going on play college-level lacrosse.

β€œIt's been a very rewarding and exciting year for our club,” she said.

The boys varsity team is ranked second in their division. The girls’ team, in its inaugural year, already has two wins.

Kevin Walz is the boys Varsity Coach. Kevin Bresnahan is the boys JV coach and Christie Smith is the girls coach. Dick Mack assists with all coaching for our boys teams and Mike Ferrell assists with the girls team.

Concessions will be available during the games and a nominal gate fee will be charged.
