Lake Erie Swimming Risky Monday, National Weather Service Warns
Large waves and dangerous currents have made the waters of Lake Erie dangerous for swimmers.

Northeast Ohio's swimmers will want to avoid Lake Erie again. Much of the lake's coast is under a Beach Hazards Statement, meaning swimmers are being advised to avoid the lake.
The National Weather Service issued the statement on Sunday, but extended it on Monday. The warning remains in effect through at least Monday at 4 p.m. The statement was issued for Cuyahoga, Lake and Lorain counties.
"A Beach Hazards Statement is issued when swimming risks exist from a combination of wind and large waves including rip currents and longshore currents," the National Weather Service said. "These swimming risks can create life-threatening conditions even for good swimmers. Follow the instruction of local authorities or stay out of the water."

The National Weather Service is specifically worried about the possibility of high waves and strong currents pushing swimmers around.
Storms on Sunday may have further riled the waters of Lake Erie, but forecasts show a calming sky coming into Cleveland. Clear, blue skies are expected to hold court in Northern Ohio through at least Tuesday night.
