Leaf Pickup Starts Next Monday

The will begin leaf pickup in force next Monday, Oct. 31 and is reminding residents to keep leaves out of the streets, especially with the unusually wet weather conditions.

“With all the rainfall we have seen this year it is important, now more than ever, that the leaves be kept off the streets,” Joe Reitz said. “Leaves in the streets create a hazard for the vehicles and can potentially cause storm water backups.”

Two trucks are currently making rounds. Reitz said the city's eight trucks will be on the street starting Oct. 31.

The city’s website (www.avonlake.org) will post updates where the trucks are currently picking up the leaves.

Residents are asked to be considerate of the safety of the street and storm drainage by keeping their leaves on the treelawn.

“The Engineering Department feels that public safety and a properly draining storm sewer is more important than green treelawn that will grow back,” Reitz said.

During leaf pickup the city does not do branch pickup. Branch pickup will resume after leaf season.
