6 Holiday Events in Avon Lake
Even if you're just looking for things for the kids to do while you wrap presents, these events can help your holiday season.

AVON LAKE, OH - With the holidays coming up, now is a good time to start planning what festivities you may want to take part in. Don't get me wrong - I love curling up on the couch with a blanket and a Christmas movie on Netflix, but sometimes you need to don the knit sweater and join in a carol or two. That's why we've compiled a few upcoming holiday events in Avon Lake that might pique you and your family's interest (and don't require driving outside of the city).
The Merry Mugs! Art Class at the Old Firehouse Community Center, 100 Avon Belden Road, is open to kids ages 6-12 and would be perfect for the budding arts and crafts aficionado. Participants will get to paint their own mug with help from local artist Diana Avila. The event will be held Dec. 16 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Admission is $15 for residents, $20 for nonresidents.
Less craftsy and more bakey? No problem. If sweet treats and savory eats are your thing, the city has holiday programming for your kids too.

The Holiday Cookie Décor class is for young chefs. Participants will learn how to bake cookie using old school baking techniques, including making sugar cookie dough and royal icing. According to the city's website, each student will leave with a half dozen cookies and a recipe packet. That said, don't drop off a hungry kid. Parents are asked to feed their miniature chefs prior to the class. The event will be held Dec. 14 and Dec. 21 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Admission is $25 for residents, $30 for nonresidents.
Want your kids to expand their dessert palette beyond cookies? Try the Sweet & Savory Holiday Treats course. In that one, students will learn a host of festive desserts and bring home a sample plate and recipe packet for you to chow down on. It's the best homework you'll ever help your kids with. That class will be held Dec. 22, with two 2.5 hour sessions starting at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Avon Lake Library is hosting the Jingle Bell Jam, Dec. 13, at 6:30 p.m. The night will feature fun music and kids are invited to wear their PJs and boogie. The library will then be closed Dec. 24 and Dec. 25.
Avon Lake High School is holding its Orchestra Holiday Concert, featuring musicians from grades 7-12, on Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. The Choral Holiday Concert will be held Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m.
Finally, don't miss out on any of the awesome holiday lights (though you may have to drive out of Avon Lake to see them). We compiled a list of nine of the must-see decorations throughout Northeast Ohio.
