Lorain County Regional Airport Gets $69K From Federal Stimulus
Nearly $50 million has been awarded to northern Ohio airports, with the bulk going to Cleveland Hopkins.
ELYRIA, OH — The Lorain County Regional Airport is one of the facilities receiving a funding boost from the federal government's stimulus package. The site will receive $69,000 through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
Nine northern Ohio airports received some funding through the stimulus package. Cleveland Hopkins Airport led the recipients, with more than $46 million. The Toledo Express received nearly $3 million, and Lorain County Regional and Erie-Ottawa International both received $69,000.
“I am pleased to announce that airports across our region have been awarded federal economic relief funding to offset the losses associated with the prevention, preparation, and response to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Rep. Marcy Kaptur, whose district includes much of northern Ohio.

Under the airport program of the CARES Act,
- Primary, commercial service airports with more than 10,000 annual passenger boardings will receive additional funds based on how many people board planes in their airport
- Commercial service airports will receive funds based on how many passengers board aircraft, the amount of debt the airport has and the amount of money the airport has in reserve
- General aviation airports will receive funding based on their category (for example, national, regional, local, etc.)
- The FAA will make these funds available in April
“Americans across Northern Ohio depend on these airports, whether it be for business or recreation. Ensuring these airports remain fully operational throughout and after the COVID-19 pandemic is of the utmost importance. I am pleased to have worked with my colleagues in Congress to ensure airports and those who depend on them throughout Northern Ohio receive the federal support they need as we all weather this crisis," Kaptur said.
