Lorain County Still Has 'Very High' COVID-19 Spread
For the second week in a row, Lorain County was classified as "red" for its coronavirus spread.
AVON, OH — Lorain County still has a "very high" rate of COVID-19 spread locally, the Ohio Department of Health announced.
Health officials recommend Lorain County residents stay home as much as possible and refrain from public gatherings whenever possible. The county is averaging 51 cases per 100,000 residents.
While Lorain County is still red, Gov. Mike DeWine said there are signs conditions are improving locally.

"Lorain is making progress in the right direction," he said during a news conference on Thursday. He noted that outpatient visits are decreasing and the cases per 100,000 residents is relatively low when compared to other red counties.
"Lorain County Health Commissioner, David Covell reported that the Lorain County weekly number dropped to 84 county wide, which is half as many as the week before. He expects that we will drop from the "red" category down to "orange" either this week or next," Avon Lake Mayor Greg Zilka said this week.

The Ohio National Guard hosted a free, pop-up testing site in Avon Lake last week.
