Lorain Has 32nd Most COVID-19 Spread Among Ohio Counties: Ranking
The Ohio Department of Health is ranking the state's 88 counties based on cases per 100,000 residents.
AVON LAKE, OH — The spread of COVID-19 in Lorain County has worsened, according to Ohio Department of Health statistics.
The state has started ranking Ohio's 88 counties by COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents. Last week, based on that metric, Lorain County had the 40th highest spread of the virus. This week, Lorain County has the 32nd highest spread.
Lorain County now has 78.4 cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 residents. That's up from 68.8 cases per 100,000 residents last week, the state health department confirmed.

There are currently 243 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Lorain County, the Ohio Department of Health said. The county is currently classified as "orange" for its COVID-19 spread, but could be upgraded to "red" on Thursday.
Gov. Mike DeWine unveiled the new county-by-county ranking tool last week. He said school districts should gauge the threat of COVID-19 locally using the tool.

The top five counties for most COVID-19 spread are:
- Mercer — 293.9 cases per 100,000 residents
- Champaign — 185.2 cases per 100,000 residents
- Darke — 164.3 cases per 100,000 residents
- Lucas —154.5 cases per 100,000 residents
- Lawrence — 136.2 cases per 100,000 residents
