Make Your Voice Heard On The Deer issue In Avon Lake

The city is asking residents to provide their opinions on what should be done with the deer population in the city.

AVON LAKE, OH — One of the most consistently cited problems by gardeners in Northeast Ohio is the overwhelming influence of deer. The issue of how to deal with the overabundance of deer is one of the more divisive matters in the region. That's why the city conducts an annual deer survey, to gauge residents' feelings on the matter. The 2017 edition of that survey is now available.

The city says the responses on the survey will be used to craft ordinances related to deer population control. Questions on the survey include opinions on whether or not the city's deer population is increasing in the city, and in the resident's neighborhood; what the resident would like to see with the deer population (increase, decrease); and the types of deer issues experienced on a resident's property.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has described Northeast Ohio as a region of medium white tail deer population, noting that deer problems tend to be in more abundance in central and southern Ohio. (Subscribe to the Avon-Avon Lake Patch newsletter to stay up-to-date on all things local.)
