Money Stolen From 95-Year-Old Avon Lake Woman

Someone gained access to the woman's bank account and has been transferring funds to themselves for more than a year.

AVON LAKE, OH — Someone has been stealing money from a 95-year-old Avon Lake woman, according to police reports. Unauthorized transfers have been made, sending money out of the woman's bank account and into another bank account, for more than a year.

Receiving Stolen Property, Feb. 24 — Officers on Jaycox Road saw a car with stolen license plates. Police pulled the vehicle over and the driver was cited for fictitious plates and expired plates.

Identity Theft, Feb. 24 — Someone has been stealing money from a 95-year-old woman's bank account, according to a relative. The theft was reported in Feb. 2018, but transfer from the woman's account to another bank have been occurring, mysteriously, since January 2017.

Disturbance, Feb. 24 — An Avon Lake woman said her son and his girlfriend were threatening after she confronted them about smoking in her house. The couple ran off before police arrived at the home. Officers later found the teenagers and escorted them to the girlfriend's home. They alerted the mother to where her son was.

Fraud, Feb. 26 — Fake checks were used to rip an Avon Lake woman off. She posted a room for rent on Craigslist.com and an interested party sent her fraudulent checks.
